A spud barge, or jack up barge is a type of vessel which is capable of providing a solid work platform in offshore, inland and coastal construction operations. Each “spud” consists of a heavy-duty pipe or other fabricated cylindrical object, which is driven into the sea floor or river bottom for increased stability when working with heavy equipment in marine environments. A typical spud barge can be used for a variety of applications ranging from pipeline construction to marine salvage operations.
