As a young boy growing up, we had nothing more than the family dog in my household. Of course, I was the one constantly breaking new ground within the family in regards to keeping animals. As far back as I can remember, to the age of around three, all of my attention was directed at dinosaurs. I even knew the some of the latin names for them. My next passion came in the form of insects, which were readily available in the backyard. Soon thereafter, my interests were directed towards the ocean and its inhabitants. In particular were whales and sharks. My father and I fished commercially for many years on the weekends during which time I did nothing but wondered what swam in the ocean. On a camping trip at the age of nine I caught my first snake, a garter. After lots of whining, I convinced my parents to let me have it and home it went. The second snake was the class gopher snake. I needed a permission slip from my parents to present to my science teacher. That day I got up extra early to be at school before anyone else to stake claim to it. After breaking the ice with my parents, I started saving up my allowance for a baby boa. When I had enough money, I rode my bike up to the local pet store and, at the age of 13, I had my first boa. From that point on I had kept just about every animal available. At 15 I started working part time at that local pet shop which just fueled the fire. My mom would excuse me from school so I could go down to the importer with the manager and select animals for the shop and my collection. During that time I kept birds, fish, rodents and even brought home the occasional kitten. Now as an adult, I keep a Savannah cat and a large group of snakes. I travel quite a bit, as I seem to be on the constant search for underwater and land based discovery. I became a business in 1997, formerly “Ophidian Affliction”. I can be found at Southern California reptile shows and expos a couple times per year as breeding production allows. My reputation for healthy animals at reasonable prices keeps many customers coming back for repeat business. With having full time employment, it allows me to take my time with sales. No animals leave my care until I am convinced that they will go on to thrive for a new owner. Conducting business in this way gives me peace of mind that, in the event of a complaint, I can provide customer support in relation to husbandry rather than illness. Those who know me are well aware that I answer all emails thoroughly and provide true and accurate pictures of my stock. References are always provided when requested. I have been at this for quite some time now. I never aspired to be a big breeder or even a well-known name but treating people with respect and being an honest person seems to have pushed me up a few rungs on the ladder. I still remain humble and conduct myself in a way that is absent the jealousy and the back-biting. The internet has been monumental in how our hobby has developed and grown. It also has created a negative side in the form of “trolls”. These would be those individuals that sit behind their computers and attempt to bait innocent people into cyber-wars with slander and fabrication.
