Founded in 1988, Data-Oriented Quality Solutions was launched to develop the synergy between data-oriented disciplines and the practices of quality management. At the time, IT was still completely centralized around the data center, PCs were beginning to penetrate the workplace, CASE tools were setting the direction in software engineering, data warehouses were small because of the early availability and weaknesses of relational databases, and quality management focused on TQM, with Six Sigma still unknown because it hadn't yet emerged from Motorola.

No matter how much an organization invests in process improvement, the desired quality levels are only realized if projects effectively use the resulting processes. Our quality assurance services support project success by providing an interative assessment and mentoring cycle that assists teams in taking advantage of the process capabilities that have been put around them by an organization's quality improvement and process maturity initiatives. We provide an enabling support system that helps assure project success.

Rick has worked with numerous small and large client organizations to define organizational charters, and plan supporting processes to drive the defined mission. Through a workshop entitled Mission-Focused Planning, he teaches organizations to focus all tactical activities on the mission and strategic objectives.

The Criteria for Performance Excellence of the Balridge National Quality Award (United States) is a centerpiece in our organizational development practice because it provides a clear model for a management system that can be used by any of our client organizations. We use the model to provide a high-level organizational assessment within which other more IT-specific models are then applied.
