Data Processing Services Inc. was founded in 1966 by William Lynch. The initial line of business at that time was for a local supermarket chain called U-Save. About 4 years later, Duval-Bibb News Company of Florida, engaged DPS to design and install a computerized distribution solution for magazine distribution. This began the initial introduction of the company into becoming one of the major software providers for magazine and book businesses.

Data Processing Services, Inc. has provided IPDA with consulting, solutions and services for EDI (electronic data interchange) since 1982. Presently over $2 billion dollars in single copy magazine retail sales are transacted annually through, in IPDA business-to-business (B2B) exchange, the Electronic Mail System (EMS). Major publishers, national distributors, wholesalers, printers and logistics agents utilize the supply chain system between the parties via a common Windows PC based software package written by DPS called STRT.
