In 1965, company founder David S. Esh purchased his first letterpress and operated it as a hobby. He honed his craft and went into business officially in 1974, employing the help of his wife, Elsie, and their four sons, Jerry, Merle, Rick and Don. Over the next 17 years Davy oversaw the expansion of DavCo Advertising Specialties into a state-of-the-art printing and promotional products business. In 1991, the company was incorporated as The DavCo Family, Inc. This name reflected the family nature of the business and was indicative of the several divisions operating as a family of businesses.
