A. Working with your local dental supply company may seem like your simplest -and cheapest design alternative - especially when they throw out an offer for a free design. However, it is said that, there is no such thing as a free lunch and, when it comes to design plans, someone has to pay for that meal- that someone is you. You'll pay in lost productivity, poor space utilization, increased cabinet and equipment costs, inadequate design documentation, and a lack of esthetic plan - just to name a few. You can't really blame the supply company.

Architects have been particularly impressed with our ability to custom design and have fabricated ingenious dental equipment that is largely transparent to the patient while being extremely user friendly. This work is frequently done in collaboration with our sister company Ergonomic Products, Inc.

As dental providers, we sit on a stool for balance and support. Thick padding that may feel elegant during a demonstration prohibits maximal extension laterally during dental use. Unlike office workers, we must frequently function off-axis. Only a contoured seat firmly padded with the highest quality foam core is able to permit this motion safely (Figure 9). A softer padded seat that has contour built into the pad rather than the base gives way during lateral reach motions and re-quires the operator to strain during extension.
