Dean Pickard was born in 1947 in Geneva, New York to Frances Dean (from Wellington New Zealand) and William O. Pickard (from Beaver Falls, PA) near Sampson College where his father was attending after serving in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific throughout WWII. The family moved 6 months later to Knoxville Tennessee where Dean's father received a degree in economics and business administration from the University of Tennessee. In 1955 when Dean was eight, the family moved to Cincinnati Ohio where Dean completed the third grade. The following year the family moved to Indianapolis Indiana where Dean completed grades four through eight. At the beginning of ninth grade in 1962, at the age of fourteen, the family moved to Rotorua, New Zealand where Dean went to school for a short time. The next spring, the family moved to Rialto and then Riverside California where Dean completed the ninth and tenth grades...
