Innovation has come about from exploring new ideas and new understanding . The best way to gain new understanding is through working with others – collaboration . Through successfully working to get industry, academia, and government to work together (collaborate), we have identified how we can better use computing capabilities as a tool to improve understanding and decision making. This collaboration has involved a broad number of individuals from many companies and organizations. While the results of this collaboration have been satisfying, another key understanding is that a technology will not impact society unless a business can be made to take it to market. This is why we have formed Decision Incite. Decision Incite evolved from a number of collaborative research and development programs working specifically with Jacek Marczyk of Ontonix; Ed Ladzinski of IBM; and Siu Tong, Mike Sheh, and others from Engineous Software. Much of the vision in working with these individuals is the result of a seed planed by Ed Stanton, retired Chief Technology Officer at MSC Software. The end users involved in these collaborative R&D programs have been key to their success.

This is really a convincing blog on improving the human society. We can learn certain lessons from the experience of others. We can also study new technologies from the experience of the various industrial leaders.

Decision Incite was started in May 2008 by Gene Allen. Mr. Allen worked the past 20 years in collaborative research and development, focused on how to improve the use of computers to do better engineering. As Director of Collaborative Development at both MSC Software and the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences and as Economic Development Advisor to Senator Robert C. Byrd, he established a number of collaborative R&D programs applying computers to design and manufacturing to develop better, safer products. He worked with Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Ford, General Motors, Pratt & Whitney, Texas Instruments, Kodak, DARPA, NASA, NIST, DOE labs and others. He co-authored “Collaborative R&D: Manufacturing’s New Tool” published by Wiley. His engineering background is based on his experience in designing, building, testing, and operating Navy nuclear propulsion systems. He is a graduate of MIT, with a degree in Nuclear Engineering.
