Description

Kay Whittington has been with MDEQ for 16 years and has served as Chief of the Basin Management Branch in MDEQ’s Surface Water Division since 2009. Through the Basin Management Program Kay has focused on working with partners throughout Mississippi to identify the highest priority water resources issues and collectively focus resources to protect and restore those high priority water bodies.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) has taken significant steps to liberalize the rules regarding the harvest and control of feral hogs. These new provisions have been designed to provide agricultural landowners and producers with a larger suite of "legal" tools to protect against crop depredation. Much of this depredation occurs at the time of planting which coincides with spring turkey season.

“Kay Whittington brings to this position a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of our state’s water resources. Kay is already working with the Office Land and Water Resources on numerous water issues and through her work over the years has established key relationships with stakeholders all across the state. When I think of water resources, I think of Kay Whittington,” said MDEQ Executive Director Trudy Fisher.
