Description

A cochlear implant is an electrical device surgically placed into the inner ear and secured to the skull that bypasses the damaged hearing mechanism (cochlea) in order to stimulate the hearing nerve directly. These devices provide auditory-like sensation to individuals (both children and adults) with severe to profound hearing loss who no longer benefit from traditional amplification or patients who are born deaf. Our practice has performed hundreds of cochlear implants over the years with significant success. Many of our cochlear implant recipients are able to develop spoken language, participate in mainstream education environments, reconnect with family and loved ones, and perform at exceptionally high levels in the work force.
