Mainstream education, by design, is targeted toward meeting the needs of the "average" student. Unfortunately, there are very large numbers of students who simply aren't "average". Conceptual learners, gifted students, highly artistic students, students diagnosed ADD or ADHD, and students who have uncommon abilities or interest in sports - all need flexibility in their curriculum and scheduling in order to reach their full potential. Desiderata School has consistently provided a unique and affordable option for these and other students to work toward a college-accepted, accredited diploma through Distance Learning (Correspondence School) and on-site Private School programs since 1982. Students complete coursework on their own schedule, at their own pace, with the regular attention and assistance of their own private Sponsor. Every student is treated as an individual with his or her own valuable talents and interests. Students and parents are afforded the opportunity to assist in the creation of a personalized curriculum specifically designed to enhance the student's own learning style. Are You Older or Younger Than Traditional Students? Desiderata has graduated students from 14 to 72 years of age. All students receive one-on-one attention from their Sponsors (instructors). Grade levels are separately determined for each subject, and coursework may be designed to focus on each student's interests and existing demonstrated expertise...
