Our experience in presentation graphics and construction methods and practices enhances our abilities to provide clients with accurate construction documents, consistent with the latest standards.

Design 3 Architecture was founded by Don Lightner in 1982. Prior to this, Don worked for Oxford Development Company, managing their in-house architecture department. Don negotiated a buyout of this department from Oxford and he opened his new company named Design 3, with the byline “Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture.” Oxford Development Company then became his landlord, as well as his client, and continues to be one of Design 3 Architecture’s major clients, and landlord, to the present day.

Founded in 1982, Design 3 Architecture has met architectural challenges for businesses, developers, private organizations, governmental agencies, non-profit groups and individuals.

Drawing on over 30 years of experience in architectural design services for local and national tenants in many new and older downtown and suburban office buildings for several developers, leasing agents, and construction managers throughout the Pittsburgh region, Design 3 Architecture understands the needs of tenants and landlords, and has become very proficient at assisting with programmatic space planning and generating preliminary test fit layouts.

Design 3 Architecture is dedicated to each client’s best interest. We approach each project as a team, working closely with the client as a member of that team, helping to define and achieve the client’s goals. We bring the full weight of Design 3 Architecture’s expertise to each project. And, although our clients may not get to know everyone at Design 3 Architecture, the different experiences and varied knowledge we each have gained is drawn upon to provide our clients with a comprehensive quality design solution.
