Design for Vision opened its doors for the first time in February of 1955. It was founded by Donald R. Manning Sr., who relocated here from Jersey City, New Jersey with his new bride, Muriel. Don Sr. was coaxed to the area by his uncle, George Wood, who worked for U.S. Steel. Don learned his trade in optical labs in New York City and the U.S. Military. With his great personality, accomplished optical knowledge and help from, soon to be partner, Joe Cole, Design for Vision was off and running.
