In general, 1.9 lb. closed cell foam is the best possible option for maximum R-value. 1.9 lb. foam has an R-value of 7.14 per inch. With 3.5 inches of 1.9 SPF inside a wall, you have a R-value of 24.99. That is a very effective insulation value. Fiberglass can't even come close. This foam also has a permeance rating of 0.95 for one inch. (0.56 for three inches) The permeance or perm rating is the ability of water vapor to travel through the insulation. Any rating under 1.0 is considered a vapor barrier. Fiberglass has a perm of 7.0 per inch. SPF 1.9 closed cell foam is a effective vapor barrier on both sides! SPF is sprayed inside your structure where it reaches all the nooks and crannies. Your structure is stronger with rigid foam in the walls, ceiling, and roof deck. As a structural component, rigid foam will actually stiffen the building. No other insulation can match SPF for sealing your structure.
