Deaf Independent Living Association, Inc. (DILA) is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit agency located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that was established in 1982 to promote independent living among eligible deaf individuals. A volunteer Board of Directors governs the agency of approximately twenty-five staff members, fluent in American Sign Language. DILA continues to serve as a transitional program between school, working and living in the community for deaf and hearing impaired individuals. Two offices, located in Salisbury and Easton, serve the nine counties of the Eastern Shore. Who Does DILA Serve? Traditionally, DILA served deaf individuals having developmental disability. The new direction of the agency is to serve all individuals with all types of hearing loss including hard-of-hearing, late deafened adults, deaf-blind and family members of an individual with a hearing loss.
