Hays, Kansas does not escape the national trends. In fact, our city mirrors the image of the country itself - both its successes and its failures and - yes - its unspent potential. Our goal is to build on the inherent strengths of our City and do everything possible to foster a climate of good neighbors, friendship and civility. Nothing is standing still - not the march of technology, not the environment and not the intrusion of the global economy into our lives. The accelerating pace of these events is testing us, and the City of Hays is acting decisively. It is very important to count some of the many blessings and attractions that our community already has to offer. Sternberg Museum of Natural History, has become one of the most unique educational and scientific attractions between Kansas City and Denver. Other major attractions include the Ellis County Historical Society Museum, Felten Art Gallery, the Hays Art Center, the Volga German House and Old Fort Hays. We have an excellent school system which is strengthened by North Central Technical College and Fort Hays State University. Our medical care is second to none with the advancements and expansion of Hays Medical Center and the Center for Health Improvement. We also have growing, year-round recreational opportunities that have been enhanced by the Hays Recreation Commission and the Hays Aquatic Park. City and Countywide our employment is strong and our retail industry continues to expand. Yes, we indeed have a lot in our community to offer and to be thankful for. I have learned that people working together to accomplish common goals is the rule in Hays - not the exception. A progressive attitude is demonstrated in the growth we have experienced in population, industry, commerce and tourism. People are learning about Hays and want to learn more. City services are complete, dependable and effective. In short, our city supports this growth and does what it can to see that Hays meets its potential. Hays is a growing community and our progressive attitude is dominant in the fabric of our citizens. I am proud to call Hays my home. Working and living easily merge in Hays.
