Description
Last time on the DixieMat blog, we looked at the fundamentals of laminated mats and explored what makes a laminated mat the valuable thing it is. This week, we’ll look into the details of what makes a mat from DixieMat the reliable and remarkable thing that it is. DixieMat is involved in every step of the process and has a hand in each stage ensuring that the highest quality products are made every time. In this post we’ll look a little closer at some of the steps involved in the mat making process and get a closer glimpse at what it takes to make a high quality hardwood mat or crane mat. A good hardwood mat or crane mat starts as a tiny seed. The selection of the right timber is an important piece of the hardwood mat making process and involves a lot more than merely harvesting trees. This step also involves selection management and maintenance to ensure a reliable supply of high quality hardwood. In the next step of the process, the prime logs are measured to exact specifications and precisely cut. This allows for the most resourceful and effective use of material and also ensures that the resulting hardwood mats and laminated mats are of the highest quality. At DixieMat, this all takes place in one of nine company-owned mills throughout the country. Next, each hardwood mat is built to exact specs ensuring the tightest, toughest, longest lasting hardwood mats around. A mechanical drilling system increases both efficiency and the ultimate reliability of the final hardwood mat or crane mat. Once the mat is finished, the final product (a shiny new hardwood mat or crane mat) is stored in of DixieMat’s many storage facilities. From here, DixieMat transports the crane mats, swamp mats, and hardwood mats via flatbed trucking or rail transport anywhere in the country with their own freight transport company. DixieMat completes the job by offering installation and removal services as well.
