Family Practice doesn't always require an office. Dr. Kara did house calls for over 6 years while maintaining a clinic. It was expensive to do both. One had to give. Now Dr. Kara is entirely mobile with House Calls and Telemedicine (via Skype) and telephone. Tele-medicine services may not be suitable for every situation, so ask in advance when you leave a detailed message at 801-495-9303. Other services offered include something similar to "Ask-A-Nurse" except you are getting higher level information from a person who has advanced skills. Using the "Ask-An-NP" service could save you unnecessary costs for an inappropriate ER visit. Here's an example: I received a call from a woman about her recent hospital stay for atrial fibrillation. She had a bill for a 3-day stay because she didn't understand outpatient cardio-version very well. Now she knows what a TEE (transesophageal echocardiogram) is and what outpatient cardio-version can do for her.
