When we entered the document imaging marketplace there was very little innovation taking place. Every company was doing the same thing. We wanted to develop a product that would keep the best the industry offered and yet would overcome the inherent limitations that existed with other products on the market. We found many of the software companies were following the lead of Microsoft. They designed their document imaging software so that it would hold customers hostage to making costly upgrades or penalized them if they changed vendors. Part of our market strategy was to develop a product that protected the customer, not the vendor. We found that most document imaging companies charge a significant fee when you stopped using their system and changed vendors. This was true even when it was the software company that discontinued the product and discontinued support.
