Dollar Point is one of the finest communities on Lake Tahoe. 569 lots exist in the development. In recent years, four small clusters of neighbors privately arranged to "underground" the utilities near their homes. These areas include portions of Observation Court, Shasta Court, Edgecliff Court and Edgecliff Way, and the southeast part of Edgewater Drive. Of the 569 lots in Dollar Point, 46 properties currently get their utilities from an underground source. Several other properties have underground trenches on their property but connect to an overhead source at the street. A 1999 homeowner survey revealed that a majority of property owners favored "undergrounding" their utilities. Spearheaded by an eight person Steering Committee, DPUP is now a non-profit corporation. In total, 60 residents have volunteered to assist the project. These volunteers are being assigned to various working committees. Our goal is to eliminate all power poles and utility lines throughout Dollar Point. We believe this will not only improve the aesthetics and increase property values, but also promote more reliable power availability, and improve health and safety in our neighborhood.
