At the Videoscopic Institute of Atlanta, P.C., Bariatric Surgery (Weight Loss Surgery) is an option for patients 100 pounds or more overweight, or whose body mass index (BMI) is 40 or above, due to the greatly increased risk of health problems associated with severe obesity. Surgery may also be indicated for patients with a BMI of 35-39 with an established associated health problem. We perform the Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG), Lap-Band and Roux En-Y Gastroplasty (RNY, RUNY, or Roux En-Y) by the Laparoscopic Approach. I had practiced traditional open General and Thoracic Surgery for a decade before it became possible to operate with a video camera and small incisions.
