Description

First let me make clear that I am not an M.D. or an O.B.G.Y.N. or a surgeon. I am a Chiropractor who earnestly tried to help his wife.My wife developed fibroids and we went the traditional medical route at first. We had an ultrasound or two and the OBGYN said that they could give her a shot (Lupron) that would suppress estrogen and shut down her monthly cycle claiming that this would temporarily shrink the fibroids. Then they suggested a hysterectomy. Since we had not yet had children, then we decided to wait and pursue more natural methods. My wife's whole abdomen had become as hard as a rock (just like petrified wood) and you could feel the fibroids through the skin. They went from the left hip to the right hip and from just below the hair line up to and above the belly button. Fibroid tumors are a growth that occurs in the uterus. They are non cancerous. They can occur on the outside of the uterus, on the inside of the uterus, or in the middle layer of the uterus. The ones which occur on the inside lining of the uterus are the ones that cause abnormal bleeding. Fibroid tumors that occur in the middle layer of the uterus do not cause abnormal bleeding but they can get quite large and cause the uterus to enlarge and make you look pregnant. The typical Ob/Gyn will recommend a hysterectomy. They will recommend either partial or complete removal of the uterus. However, then you can never have any more children. Some Ob/Gyn will offer to give you a shot (Lupron) that will shut down the production of natural hormones for about six months. This will cause the fibroids to shrink and you will not have a menstrual cycle either. However, you will experience Menapause symptoms and this does not cure the problem. There is a surgical technique that uses four very small incisions about a quarter of an inch long can be used to insert a tube with a very small, sharp, surgical knife that cuts the fibroid into small pieces and removes it up the tube. There are three or four 1/4 inch incisions made in your abdomen. Two of the incisions are made near your bikini line and one near your belly button. Fibroids of ALL Sizes can be removed through the small tubes inserted into these incisions. A very sharp surgical knife that resembles a potato peeler is able to remove fibroids from the size of grapefruit to the size of a pea. The larger the fibroid, the more blood supply that it will tend to have. This increases the likelyhood of bleeding during the surgery.
