We created this guide to share some of our enjoyment of our trips to England. You might walk down an American street and not even realize what you are seeing has a tie to another country, but we will show you a bit of Britain in your own backyard. Many colonial inhabitants were British-born or first generation immigrants forging a new life based on their British culture and knowledge. Some left England to free themselves from British laws and customs, many to expand the British Empire. For this reason we include many homes or sites that were pre-Revolutionary, especially those that were built or inhabited by British immigrants or by the British in some official capacity (Governors homes, forts, etc.) The styles include Georgian, Queen Anne, Medieval, Tudor, and Victorian. What really are the differences between Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England? While we might not understand the politics or the intricate histories as part of Great Britain, many of us would recognize our own surnames in churches and cemeteries there while thrilling to a greater connection with our common history. The majority of our European ancestors first set foot in North America somewhere in the Northeast. It isn't just about our colonial period, either. Between 1815 and 1929, more than 11 million people left Great Britain.
