In June 2004, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors introduced two affordable housing initiatives, the Affordable Housing Preservation Initiative, geared toward preservation of existing affordable housing, and Magnet Housing, targeted to meet the critical need for affordable housing for Fairfax County's workforce. The initiatives, which have both been recognized nationally for their innovation, are a joint effort of the Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
