Description

The Virden Picnic is now history. We had a good turn out and from all that we have heard, everyone left with a full tummy. Congratulations to James AF7AT for winning the grand prize of a $175.00 gift certificate to AES. Other winners of Walmart gift cards: Frank N9FL, Curtis K7COR, Lon K7LON, LeRoy KD7LMX. See you all next year. *** Tucson Ham Radio Picnic *** Sunday, October 17th, 2010 Christopher Columbus Park Ramada #4 12 Noon - è? www.tucsonhampicnic.com *** New Website *** The South Mountain, Alpine repeater is now on the air and linked as of June 21, 2010. A work party was held on Saturday the 19th and the two meter antenna was repaired at that time. A minor problem was found in the link radio, and a follow up trip was completed on the 21st. All is working at this time. The repeater operates on 145.27 with 141.3 PL for those not aware. New photos of Alpine project on web page under assorted club photos. A work party was held at South Mtn Alpine on Friday August 6th, to complete the painting of the repeater building. Thanks to those that helped out: Dave N7AM, Larry N5BG, Mark KC7YDU, Steve KY7K, Rich N7DZH, Ann KB7PZD, Grace KB7CSE, Steve AC7E, Craig KD7TXO. Some weeds were also mowed down at the same time, thanks Dave N7AM. An additional work party was held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 to Greens Peak, for the 146.700 repeater. We were able to correct the desense/static problem. All appears to be working normally at this time, thanks to Milt N5IA, Rick W5CF, Rodney WA2ZMN, Paul WA5IHL, Larry N5BG, Greg AK7Y, Jim KD7LEK, and Marie KD7LEJ. The main problem was loose guy wires and some loose mounting hardware on the tower. The next REGULAR meeting of EAARS will be November 16th at Search & Rescue in Thatcher. The Saguaro NTS net activity held each evening at 6:30 pm has been approved to continue on a permanent basis at our meeting of May 18th. The guidelines that we requested have mostly been working. We had asked that when conducting the net that visitor checkins be limited to those interested in NTS traffic handling only. That roll call also be limited to those active individuals passing traffic. The club realizes that you cannot PREVENT someone from checking into the net. We just ask the net controllers to discourage visitor checkins that are NOT interested in NTS. The 7QP contest is now history. Those that came out and participated hopefully enjoyed the activity. Thank you to those that came from out of the area to help us. The wind was again our enemy this year, but we managed to overcome. See main page for link to bulk 7QP photos. This is a work in progress. Again, anyone wishing to place any EAARS related news of interest on this page, please send Larry N5BG an email with your request.
