EAA Chapter 119 also operates a Young Eagles Program designed to introduce young people, ages 8 - 17, to opportunities in aviation. Over 2,750 local young people have been given free rides by EAA pilots who volunteer their time and aircraft. Each year the chapter sponsors a youngster to attend the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA Chapter 119, in conjunction with the Watsonville Municipal Airport and the Pajaro Valley School District sponsors aviation related education programs for youths and adults through the Watsonville Aviation Education Center (WAEC). The center officially opened in the fall of 1999. The Watsonville Aviation Education Center (WAEC) is a joint effort between the Watsonville Municipal Airport, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 119, and the Pajaro Valley School District. Its purpose is to sponsor state-of-the-art aviation related educational programs and activities for youth and adults. These include, but aren't limited to, a workshop and specialized tools for aircraft construction and class instruction, an aerospace library, introductory aircraft simulator and flight experience, financial assistance toward aviation career training, publishing of an informative monthly newsletter, and providing meeting facilities for the Federal Aviation Administration and all other area non-profit aviation organizations dedicated to fostering aviation knowledge, flight proficiency, and safety through education...
