With the number of passengers on commuter trains increasing rapidly, NJ Transit was faced with a great challenge in designing their new commuter railcar – to increase passenger capacity without sacrificing passenger comfort. Following extensive research, development, and testing that has spanned the past four years, NJ Transit has introduced the new Multi-Level Railcars to provide a comfortable, enjoyable commuting experience. At present, 231 new Multi-Level Railcars are on order, capable of accommodating more than a 20% increase in passenger capacity per car over the present fleet. Following the successful completion of the NJ Transit Multi-Level Railcar, Jim Ryan has joined ECCO Design Inc. as the Director of Transportation Design. The appointment of Jim Ryan as Director of Transportation at ECCO Design Inc. establishes an Industrial Design team that is uniquely suited to assist passenger rail operating companies in designing the optimal riding experience.
