Designed in France in 1937 for the Bugatti Auto Company by Louis D. de Monge, the mysterious Model 100 was initially intended to be a single engine air racer. However, during the design process, the decision was made to mount two engines and go for the world’s three-kilometer speed record. Unfortunately, the Bugatti Racer was never flown. It was lowered from a window of a Paris furniture factory just before German troops occupied the city and was hidden away during WW II. This beautiful aircraft now hangs in the entrance lobby of the EAA AirVenture Museum.
