Tree Appraisals are often required by homeowners, insurance companies or lawyers, to settle claims or disputes arising from accidental or willful damage or destruction of trees and/or shrubs. The appraisal provides a monetary value of the tree or shrub, as a basis for awarding damages. Appraisal of a tree in a landscape situation is not based on the value of the products the tree could produce, but on the non-consumptive benefits which it offers, such as privacy screening, dust and noise filtration, wind protection, cooling and shading, as well as aesthetic considerations. Factors taken into consideration are size, species, condition and placement. A Tree or Plant Appraisal will provide the owner with an accurate and defensible value of tree/plant losses. We use a system developed by the Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers, which is comprised of representatives from American Association of Nurserymen, American Society of Consulting Arborists, Associated Landscape Contractors of America, International Society of Arboriculture, and National Arborist Association. This system is being constantly updated and improved, as more research is undertaken and knowledge becomes available. We are currently using the Ninth Edition of the Guide for Plant Appraisal, which is the most recent edition. We strive to stay abreast of all the latest research and developments in our field of work. We are anticipating publication of a new and enlarged "Species Rating" list.
