Our newest (and oldest) letter was recently added to www.earlyMaine.org . The letter is to an Edward MITCHELL of Waterville, Maine from his father. A transcription is included below. Thanksgiving here will be on the 26th of this month - and we have thought you would be here at that time. You must write and let us know what your plans are. We have had [??] from Helen and [??] Whitman - the babe is quite sickfeeble and will not probably live long. Victor Mitchell is dead - he died in the hospital in N. York, was taken with a fever on his passage hime from Savanna with his brother Josiah - His remains were carried to Freeport and buried Last Sunday - Josiah came on with them and went back to N. York on Monday. Ezekiel has also gone on to New York to take [??] with his brother for the benefit of his health. Your Grandpa Mitchell is now at Springfield and has been there even since I wrote you last - Your Aunt Davis continues [??] sick - [??] Cushing and wife are going to Boston to spend the winter and will leave here next week. I can think of nothing more to write - let us hear from you soon - and give our love to all inquiring friends - Your affectionate Father
