Description
The East Moline Police Department serves a community of over 20,000 citizens covering 7.3 sq. miles. The police department has an authorized strength of 40 sworn officers including the Chief of Police, two Captains, and one Confidential Secretary to the Chief. The Patrol Division is made up of 3 Lieutenants, 5 Sergeants and 16 patrol officers, and is under the command of Operations Captain Bill DeVrieze. The Patrol Division actively patrols the streets answering all calls for service (27,000 calls in 2006). The Patrol division has officers assigned to the following areas: Traffic Enforcement, Bicycle Patrol, and a K-9 Officer. The Detective Division, which includes a 2-man Special Operations Unit, also falls under the command of the Operations Captain. The division has a Detective Lieutenant, Sergeant, 2 detectives, and three officers assigned to outside agencies. EMPD participates in the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group and the FBI Gang Task Force. The East Moline Police Department has a Services Division that falls under the command of Services Captain Bill DeVrieze. The Services Division has two School Resource Officers, a Community Oriented Policing Officers, two Records Clerks, seven Tele-communicators, and one Community Service Officer. East Moline participates in the 911 Communications Center, which is a joint dispatch center with the City of Moline.
