Description

We provide wholesome natural ingredients for our meals. In addition to this we also include on our menus normal dessert items and we go on outings to restaurants where clients can re-learn to enjoy eating a variety of foods. We feel it is important that clients be able to eat a variety of foods in a variety of settings. Therefore, although we provide healthy food, we believe that limiting oneself to this food only causes limitation in one's life. We would like our clients to be able to choose in life whether or not to eat certain foods rather than be afraid of these foods.

All our facilities have a large and varied staff. Carolyn Costin, the executive director of all our programs sets the tone for clinical treatment. Each clinical director collaborates with Carolyn to provide treatment for all clients. Our primary therapists provide individual, group and family therapy. Our psychiatrists oversee all psychiatric issues and provide each client with appropriate medications or naturopathic alternatives. Our medical doctors attend to the overall physical health of each client and help resolve any medical issues that arise.

This includes activities for both body and mind. We provide both yoga and Nia classes for a well-rounded approach. We also encourage our clients to be involved in activities that are geared more for fun than just fitness. Because we are a day-treatment program we can work with athletes and people who are involved in specific sports to develop healthy plans for exercise.

Both clients and loved ones report that hearing the staff share their personal experience in recovery has been helpful in their own journey. They report that working with recovered staff increases clients' and parents' hope for the future. Seeing staff eat normally with clients helps clients to know that it is possible to have a healthy relationship with food. The staff’s experiences also enable them to anticipate many of the pitfalls in thinking and behavior that can keep problems in place and make forward movement difficult.

At the EDCC we believe nutrition and exercise are crucial areas of recovery. We deal with nutritional status, metabolism, and biochemistry, and teach clients what this information means in terms of their recovery. At the same time, we believe that eradicating problematic behaviors is not enough. We believe it is essential to help clients to figure out who they are when they are not influenced by their eating disorder and what it is they want for their lives.
