Description

Graduation 6.16.10 I finally finished my 4 years at DePaul University. Our capstone game, Time Walker, finished up pretty nicely. I've posted a new video of the game on YouTube. I think we will be trying to continue to work on it for the remainder of the summer. We got a lot of positive feedback from the capstone showcase and have a few ideas of where the game can head next as far as design goes. E3 is this week and has had some pretty exciting news. Oddly enough, it seems like the things I am most excited about are just reboots of old franchises like Twisted Metal, Donkey Kong Country, and Rayman. Still, I'm pretty excited to try out Kinect and Move since I think a lot of interesting games will come out of that. I'm now in the process of preparing my resumes and cover letters in order to find a job, which hopefully E3 will in some way subliminally increase the desire of companies to hire more people. Hopefully I didn't miss too much from DePaul's graduation being about a month later than most universities. I guess I'll find out soon... posted on wednesday, june 16th, 2010 Gamedev at DePaul 5.9.10 My final quarter at DePaul is already half other, with my current game projects well on their way to having a good finish. My team's capstone game, Timewalker , has a lot of the tech essentially done, with a lot of focus now on refining the game play and other sorts of polish. The scene editor has been working really well to build levels and we have managed to optimize the game to a good level of performance after getting hardware skinning in. DeFRAG's Project Nightlight will be wrapping up in a few weeks. We managed to get 38 participants on 7 different teams to agree to make games to then compete in judging on May 28th. The theme for this year is "Such Great Heights". Developer Volition agreed to come judge our games, so that should be pretty exciting. I just hope that all the teams are able to complete their games. Last year, I believe 5 teams started out, but only two ended up committed to finishing. I think at least 5 of the teams will finish up this year, if not all 7. posted on sunday, may 9th, 2010 Game Developers Conference 3.1.10 Next week, I will be in San Francisco attending the Game Developers Conferece to show Devil's Tuning Fork , as well as attend the assorted different panels there. I'm especially looking forward to the panels regarding Final Fantasy XIII and Uncharted 2. I remember last year being pretty hectic, so I can't even imagine how this year is going to go. I'll be arriving a few days before the conference begins with the possibility of being called upon to be a backup conference associate, but if not, I'm sure I'll find use of the extra days in San Francisco. Our capstone game is coming along nicely. We've changed directions to facilitate a better design. The core is still the same -- as the main character, Autumn, moves towards the goal, the level evolves. If she moves away from the goal, the level evolves in reverse. She is able to stop the evolution of objects within a certain radius by setting down a time staff.
