We are committed to preserving a safe and healthy environment by partnering with community - based organizations and their corporate sponsors. As a means to limit the rising threat of improper disposal of cell phones to the environment and public health, ecoCellular was founded in 2005, as a partnering organization that aides' philanthropy to humanitarian causes by raising funds for community-based organizations. Every year, hundreds of millions of cell phones are thrown into our nation's landfills. In addition to putting toxic chemicals into our earth, these phones take up valuable space and waste priceless resources. According to the national environmental research organization INFORM, electronic waste items such as cell phones are laden with hazardous substances that pose many threats to the public health. With more than 500 million phones available for the purpose of recycling within the U.S, approximately 130 million cell phones will be disposed of improperly in 2006. Thus, ecoCellular is leading the charge for the collection of used and outdated cellular phones for the purpose of recycling and generating funds for humanitarian causes.
