Description
With the power of being able to read, nothing is beyond your grasp. You can travel to far away places, climb mountains, tame lions, sail a boat around the world, travel through time, or even learn to become a wizard! That is what I have done. All of the tricks and illusions that I perform, I have learned by reading books. You may even have some of the same books in your library right now. It amazes all who watch that they can also learn to perform magical illusions through books found in your library collection. A magic show with Ed the Wizard is a fun way to reward your students at the end of a read-a-thon or any other hard work. Dressed as a wizard in mystical purple robes, each 45 minute show is packed with a mix of mystery and comedy suitable for all ages. Student participation is strongly encouraged; volunteers are used throughout the performance. My performances are more than just entertainment. I learned to become a magician through reading. Reading is the emphasis behind all of my shows. I want the students to realize that they too can learn, through reading, all that I have. The "Reading is Magic" program makes an excellent addition to any School, Library or Museum read-a-thon activities, after school programs, or summer programs. Booking is available for morning, afternoon, night and weekend classes. Magic Shows Each 45 minute show is packed with comedy and illusion. Using many volunteers, Ed the Wizard is sure to please. Having learned Wizardry the old fashion way, by reading, Ed the Wizard keeps reading the emphasis and drive behind each show. Watch as volunteers help vanish coins, pass objects through their heads, and of course, cutting someone in half! Ed the Wizard can accommodate any setting be it on stage or close up. Each show has an air of professionalism to it, whether it is in a gym, cafeteria, or auditorium. Workshops Each 45-60 minute workshop focuses on strengthening reading, comprehension, and retention skills. Each participant takes their turn reading aloud a passage on how the magic trick is made and performed. Tips on "patter" are given as each student has a chance to perform. All art and craft supplies are included as each student makes their own prop to take home. At the end of each workshop, a copy of the book used is donated to the school or library for future use. Seminars and Magic Clubs This program is designed for schools and libraries that are looking for a succession of workshops. We start off with a magic show; choose either a day time show, or "Family Night" show, followed with 6 weekly classes of "Reading is Magic." The participants learn how to make, and to perform, using their own props. On the evening of the last class, we have another "Family Night" magic show. This time it is the participants of the program who perform. This is great for after school programs as well as day/evening classes. All art and craft supplies are included.
