'Stay at the Edgewater Inn in Shady Cove as you begin your journey along the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway. Shady Cove provides all the visitor services including guided rafting and fishing trips, raft rentals, and river access. The population of Shady Cove is 2,315 with fine restaurants and friendly people. Prospect is a small historic logging community. In addition, Prospect is the site of a restored historic hotel and dinnerhouse. Very near the town you will find beautiful Mill Creek Falls and Pearsony Falls. Union Creek includes the Union Creek Historic District, an informative Forest Service Interpretive Kioske about the history and natural significance of the area is near a modern restroom facility with ample parking. At the Natural Bridge, the Rogue River cuts its way through a 1.25 million year old lava flow and disappears underground at one point to come gushing out of a lava tube. Crater Rim Viewpoint provides a panoramic view of the mountains surrounding Crater Lake National Park. It provides access to the Upper Rogue River National Recreation Trail and the Boundary Springs Trail. Boundary Springs, located within Crater Lake National Park is an increadibly beautiful series of moss-covered springs that form the beginning of the Wild &Scenic Rogue River.Rabbit Ears is a twin-shaped geologic formation created by a massive volcanic event over seven million years ago. Whitehorse Falls is next to 5-site Whitehorse Falls Campground on the Clearwater River. On location at the parking lot, this 15 foot falls is immediately visible. Relax on the porch-like platform or picnic in the sites nearby. This punchbowl waterfall is a cool respite to a hot summer day. The Toketee area is the site of Toketee Falls,Toketee Campground, Umpqua Hot Springs and Toketee Ranger Station. The area's fiery volcanic past is evident in its dramatic landscape. Towering waterfalls, a hot springs and jagged rock outcrops make this area unique. A .4 mile hiking trail winding through a narrow gorge accesses Toketee Falls which is a double waterfall that tiers from one 40 foot fall to another 80 foot drop over a sheer wall of basalt. "Toketee" means "pretty" or "graceful" in the Chinook Indian language, an apt name for this inspiring waterfall. Colliding Rivers This is the site of a unigue geological phenomenon that causes the North Umpqua River and the Little River to meet head-on, the only place in the world where this happens. Views are most spectacular with higher flows during the wet season. The newly constructed interpretive and rest area includes a short accessible trail. A historic Civilian Conservation Corps structure built in 1938 is used as a Visitors Center and open May through October. Brochures, maps and books are available at the Center.
