Description

Over the past 154 years, Edgewood has evolved from our roots as an orphanage to an innovative, multi-dimensional organization that now serves more than 5,000 children and families in crisis each year. One of the largest children’s agencies in Northern California, Edgewood helps some of our community’s most vulnerable children to heal, learn and thrive.Edgewood was started in 1851 as a shelter for orphans of the California Gold Rush. We are one of the oldest children’s charities west of the Mississippi. Though our reputation for excellence and innovation is national, our work is local. Edgewood’s residential, community and school-based programs offer hope and support to children and families in San Francisco and San Mateo counties. There is a great and growing need for our services. In California, one million children and adolescents experience emotional or behavioral problems each year. Many of these problems are the result of severe abuse and neglect, family challenges or learning disabilities. If left addressed, these issues can manifest, leading to even more severe problems. Edgewood works to break the cycle through intervention, education, treatment, advocacy and support.
