Over the years, the organization grew as the membership recognized the impact the building industry had on the environment and a clearer understanding of building science was embraced. EEBA members made a commitment to be good stewards of the resources used in the construction of residential and light commercial buildings. From this commitment and members' expertise, EEBA climate specific criteria were developed. The criteria documents provided a blueprint, based on regional climatic conditions, for improved building performance. The EEBA criteria became the industry's leading document detailing the systems approach to new construction and served to initiate a shift in the way homes were being built. In 2001, the organization's leadership voted to alter the name so as to fully embrace the goals and missions of the organization. EEBA became the Energy & Environmental Building Association. While the name changed, the passion and commitment of its membership has never wavered. Through expanded educational venues, strong national alliances and a broad based network of partners, EEBA's outreach efforts to change the way homes are built in America are seeing positive results for builders, homeowners and the environment.
