As we look to the future, we have every reason to be optimistic. I am convinced that great things lie ahead for Johnson County and, like you; I want to be a part of it. Like you, I look forward to even greater opportunity in Johnson County. I want to continue to work with businesses especially small, locally-owned businesses to encourage more and better jobs. Like you, I look forward to increased participation by the vulnerable and at-risk in our community. I want to continue to work with business and civic organizations to create greater opportunities for the less fortunate in our county. Like you, I look forward to the careful development of Johnson County as the community of choice for new residents and businesses. Like you, I look forward to a safer county. I want to continue to work with our county's law enforcement officials to address issues of crime, drugs, traffic safety and, of course, Johnson County's role in homeland security. I was proud to be nominated for Lt. Governor in 2002 and to run alongside Tim Shallenburger. Although we came up short, we campaigned honestly and stayed true to the principles we shared with the many thousands of Kansans who worked so hard on behalf of that campaign.
