Description

The Electrical Density Gauge (EDG) instrument is a new geophysical application of electrical technologies for civil and geotechnical engineering. The EDG is an alternative to the nuclear density gauge for foundation analysis that will measure in-situ soil density and moisture, i.e. no nuclear badges. Lab analysis of soil samples uses standard practices that are currently employed by soil lab technicians. The field test takes about one minute to complete using a surface tool that does not disturb the soil that is being tested. EDG determines the density, moisture content, and percent compaction of the soil with these steps: - Measuring the radio-frequency electrical properties of the soil. - Relating certain electrical properties to certain physical properties of the soil. - Calculating the density, moisture content, and percent compaction from these EDG determined physical properties. EDG is protected by patent number US 6,380,745, and US 6,963,205 B2. Electrical Density Gauge, LLC has arranged for the electronic design, package design and manufacture of EDG through an organization that is ISO-9001:2000 registered.
