I would consider myself a fan of the “Cirque de Soleil” style, Circus+theater=entertainment. However, after attending actual Cirque de Soleil produced shows I have come to expect a certain quality. Cirque Dreams Illumination (not to be confused with Cirque de Soleil, they are not related), at the Hobby Center downtown Houston TX. Falls far short of the bar that Cirque de Soleil has set. While the CD:I contortionists and clown are talented, and perform admirably. The set is constantly busy with several non-essential characters confusing the view. Not to mention the set pieces that race by on a track at seemingly random intervals. Remember that guy, from “So you think you can dance”? The poplock guru? I am sure you have seen him on youtube. Very talented dancer, and a member of the CD:I cast. While I am ever impressed with his skills, I don’t believe he fits well into the show. One other complaint, The quasi narrator slash news reporter slash singer, To much singing, poor sound quality and her part seems to fit into the show even less than Master Poplock! Basically, at half the price of a real Cirque de Soleil show. I still feel like I spent too much money.
