On October 30, 2013, Dr. Seena Russell Axel, PhD appeared on the Verizon FiOS1 News channel in an interview segment on Heroes on our Island, an inspiring TV show that profiles some of the positive people who call Long Island home. The 30-minute weekly program is dedicated to finding extraordinary people on Long Island like Dr. Russell Axel, who, might we add, did an incredible job representing our TRN, its efforts during and after Superstorm Sandy, and the EMDR professional community.

Before this terrible tragedy occurred, Trauma Recovery/HAP had already committed to support work in the Philippines and the rest of Asia as a sponsor of the EMDR Asia conference being held in January, 2014. In advance of the conference, we are holding a Part 1 EMDR workshop for 50 participants. We want to increase our ability to provide support and to train others – those who will be greatly needed to provide hope and healing to those who are suffering.

The Long Island Trauma Recovery Network (LI TRN) began in 2010, when we felt a pressing need to provide trauma relief in cases of environmental or situational disasters to their friends and neighbors within the Long Island community. Our 2011 inception could not have been timelier, because in October of 2012, we were there to answer the call when Superstorm Sandy, one of the most devastating storms in the history Long Island, hit our island head-on. In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Long Island was faced with disaster and trauma, prompting our TRN to take action.

Provide Training Team – Trauma Recovery/HAP will send a professional EMDR trainer and facilitators to your location for onsite training. The Trauma Recovery/HAP staff members are volunteers who have extensive experience in EMDR training.

When the country was stunned by the tragedy at Columbine High School, calls from the HAP network came pouring in with therapists offering to help in anyway they could. HAP was requested to provide training to 40 clinicians in order to provide them with the necessary tools to address the trauma and PTSD faced by students, teachers, parents and first responders. Working through local crisis-response agencies HAP volunteers facilitated a series of workshops for community based therapists including Part I, Part II and a specialty workshop on using EMDR with children and adolescents.
