Emisphere was founded in 1986 as Clinical Technologies Associates, Inc. In the early 1990's, the company narrowed its strategic focus to the development of its oral drug delivery technology and, in 1992, officially became Emisphere Technologies, Inc.Emisphere is currently a development stage company. The company's revenues are predominately derived from payments made by pharmaceutical and biotech companies for early development work performed by Emisphere on their behalf, or for the achievement of agreed upon milestones. Should any partnered program generate a successful product, Emisphere will receive additional royalty payments from the partnered company as agreed upon in the terms of the contract.
