Big and Little Endian Depending upon which computer architecture you are familiar with, either Intel or Motorola, you occasionally need to consider the byte order in which multi-byte numbers are stored in memory. This is particularly important when you are writing these numbers to a file or interpreting them as say an IP address in log messages. Multi-byte numbers maybe stored in memory in one of two ways, namely "Little Endian" order (Intel Format) or "Big Endian" order (Motorola Format). "Little Endian" implies that the low-order byte of the number is stored in memory at the lowest address, and the high-order byte at the highest address. (The Least Significant Byte is stored first.)
