Description

Energy Access was founded in 1998 with an eye toward providing economical SMBus chargers for the growing Smart Battery market. These batteries feature internal gas-gauging and a standardized communications bus to share information with the host equipment. In this system, the charging parameters are stored inside the battery pack, allowing the charger to periodically read them and adjust itself accordingly. The SMBus system has become the industry standard in systems requiring sophisticated power management such as portable computers, medical devices and test equipment. Energy Access has established itself as an industry leader in the SMBus market. Almost concurrent with the SMBus charger, Energy Access introduced its family of ICS chargers. These are multi-chemistry units that were originally targeted at customers who were migrating from one chemistry to another and wanted backward compatibility. It soon became clear, however, that the real market appeal was the ease of customization, and this is what continues to drive this product. ICS chargers have built-in algorithms to handle lithium ion, lithium polymer, nickel metal hydride, nickel cadmium, and lead acid cells. They also contain backup feature such as temperature monitoring and an override timer. Charge currents can range from fractions of an amp to 5 amps while the pack voltage can range as high as 35V. Simple flash programming further enhances the flexibility of this charging platform. ...
