The Thanksgiving holiday is the perfect time to reflect and express gratitude for the many great things happening in EPISD. I?m most thankful for you: our students, teachers, staff and administrators. Together we made history in 2008. Our gains on the state accountability were unprecedented - every campus Acceptable or better, 6 campuses Exemplary, and 27 campuses Recognized. I?m proud of our National Merit, National Achievement, and National Hispanic Scholarship Semifinalists. We?ve seen significant increases in the number of students earning these distinctions and students earning higher scores on the SATs overall. Much of that can be attributed to our commitment to college readiness, which is one of the top priorities in the District?s Plan for Excellence. The first step in the Plan for Excellence was to upgrade all high school football fields with artificial turf. This year we began by installing new turfs at Burges, Coronado and Andress High Schools. We commend the Athletic Facilities Committee on their dedication to this and other projects that will improve our athletic programs. Thanks are also extended to our Board members for their unwavering support. Their dedication has made possible the Plan for Excellence and projects such as the District?s energy conservation initiative. Our Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution for EPISD to go ?green? by recycling, saving energy, and acting as a good steward of the environment. ...
