Ernster Law Offices is a Pasadena-based law firm handling primarily civil and business litigation matters. Founded in 1991, the firm has specialties in commercial , transportation , family law and trust and estate litigation .

Prior to joining Ernster Law Offices, Mr. Garmus served for more than a decade as counsel for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company (ATSF), where he handled collections and bankruptcy matters; general business, commerce, tax, and real estate issues; governmental relations; and administration of the law department. Mr. Garmus then moved to the law offices of Hill, Farrell and Burrill after ATSF outsourced its legal services to Hill, Farrell & Burrill, expanding his responsibilities to include administrative-agency compliance and environmental litigation.

As practitioners in the highly specialized practice area of transportation law, with a focus on railroad litigation, Ernster Law Offices has experience in both transportation litigation and transactional matters. Our attorneys have previously worked as counsel to major railroad companies, such as Santa Fe Railway, Union Pacific Railroad Company, and Southern Pacific Transportation. Firm founder John Ernster has served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel – Pacific Region, and on the Executive Committee of the California Railroad Association.
