Description
Our track record of introducing impactful, ground-breaking cell-based assay methodologies places our services division at the cutting edge - and we pride ourselves on our quality, flexibility, speed and customer focus. With more than 100 years of drug discovery experience in our leadership team, and biologists who are technology and disease experts, we are uniquely positioned to provide specialized, customized solutions for our clients.
We are a rapidly growing mid-size global biotechnology company, headquartered in Ann Arbor Michigan USA, with satellite sites in the UK and Japan. Privately owned and founded in 1999, our inventions include FLIPR and IonWorks, two laboratory instruments that revolutionized industrial screening approaches to G-protein coupled receptor and ion channel target drug discovery. In 2006, Essen launched a third ground breaking platform technology, IncuCyte, a live cell imaging device that resides within a standard cell culture incubator.
Our cell imaging and electrophysiology products are used in academic and industrial laboratories throughout the world. In addition to direct product sales, we provide flexible outsourcing options enabling customer access to our assay technologies and expertise via our discovery service teams. Through the integrated design of instrumentation, reagents, consumables and assay protocols, our goal is to advance life science research through more informative cell-based assay solutions.
We offer a full and flexible service geared to meet the needs of both seasoned and inexperienced ion channel drug hunters alike. Our management team is comprised of trusted drug discovery experts, with experience of leading successful discovery projects against most if not all ion channel target families.
We provide a full panel of robust, structure activity relationship (SAR) assays for recombinant human ion channels, including hERG, hNa V 1.5, K V 1.5, KCNQ1+minK and hCa V 1.2. These assays are offered in either 96- or 384-well automated electrophysiology format, or fluorescence calcium ion-detection (FLIPR, Ca V 1.2). Our assays are scaled (e.g. compound batch sizes of 10-500) and costed to enable regular profiling during medicinal chemistry SAR programs. Our fast turnaround times (median 4 days from sample receipt) are commensurate with this too.
