As a member, you are part of a financial cooperative. Other financial institutions such as banks are in the business to make a profit. Credit unions are not-for-profit and exist to provide a safe, convenient place for members to save money and to get loans at reasonable rates.You are an owner of a cooperative which is organized along democratic principles. Each member has one vote in the organizational affairs, such as the election of directors. Each owner is required to maintain 1 share ($5.00) in a savings account (including money management, certificates of deposit or IRAs) to utilize FAIRWINDS' services and a $50.00 balance to avoid a monthly fee. Loan options are available to assist members with maintaining minimum balance requirements.The key to getting the most from a FAIRWINDS membership is participation. The more you use your credit union's services, the greater you and other members benefit. FAIRWINDS provides added opportunities for saving money for members who participate in their cooperative.
