Farmers & Merchants Bank of Holly Hill, was chartered by the State of South Carolina on an application dated October 23, 1912. Since then, the Bank has prospered in the years following from the fertile soil which was the foundation of a very stable agricultural economy. The Bank, in those years, provided the necessary funds in order that the area farmers might finance their crops and livestock. In this period of the Bank’s growth, loans were made in the Spring and collected in the Fall when the crops were harvested.The depression years of the 1930’s brought hard times to the area serviced by the Bank, but the Bank remained solvent and its Board proudly points out that it was one of three banks in Orangeburg County to weather this financial crisis and remain open. With the coming of World War II, the economy of the area began to improve, and the Bank was again on the road to better times.Today, under the name The Farmers & Merchants Bank of South Carolina, the bank has eight offices located in Orangeburg, Berkeley, and Calhoun counties. Farmers & Merchants Bank of SC has more than 90 years of experience to offer its customers. The areas served by the Bank are becoming more industrialized, thus providing more economic opportunities than in the years past when it had a predominantly agricultural economy.
